Philosophy of Counseling

"My therapeutic orientation is interpersonal and cognitive-behavioral based. My approach to counseling recognizes that emotional and behavioral problems can both effect and be affected by physical, psychological, social, and spiritual well being. Therefore, the treatment of emotional and behavioral problems includes the understanding of all aspects of a clients life. In general, I help clients become more aware of how their beliefs, attitudes, and previous experiences influence their behavior. The goal of counseling is not only resolution of the problem, but transformation of character."
- Dr. James C. Thomas
